Tanzania
Vaccination Requirements

After booking your flights and planning a safari, you're likely excited to start your adventure in Tanzania! However, before embarking on your journey, it's important to address some practical matters, such as vaccinations for tropical diseases. Review your medical records to determine if you have already received any of the recommended or required vaccinations.

Yellow Fever Vaccinations

Tanzania requires travelers from Yellow Fever risk countries to present a vaccination certificate to maintain its status as free from the disease. Visitors from countries not at risk may also be randomly asked for proof of vaccination. To prevent any travel disruptions, it is advisable to be vaccinated and carry a vaccination card as proof. Ensure you are vaccinated at least 10 days before traveling. Additionally, this certificate may be required for those arriving from East African nations or if you have recently been to areas with a Yellow Fever risk.

Malaria Control

While the risk of malaria in Tanzania is on the decline, certain regions still pose a threat. The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes carrying the infection. To protect yourself, use mosquito repellents containing 20-30% DETA and sleep under mosquito nets. There is no vaccine for malaria, but preventive medications such as Malarone, Doxycycline, and Lariam are available. It's important to consult your doctor before taking any of these medications. If you develop symptoms like fever, chills, vomiting, or diarrhea while in Tanzania or after returning, it's crucial to seek medical attention immediately.
