Rongai Route

The Rongai Route, uniquely situated as the sole path approaching Mount Kilimanjaro from the north near the Kenyan border, offers a distinctive trekking experience. Although increasingly popular among climbers, this route maintains a sense of exclusivity due to the relatively low number of climbers who choose it.
Rongai, known for its more gradual incline compared to other paths on the mountain, is an ideal choice for those looking for an alternative to the well-trodden Marangu route. It's particularly suited for those desiring a more secluded journey or for climbs during the wet season, as the northern side of the mountain receives less rainfall. Though somewhat challenging, Rongai is highly recommended, especially for individuals new to backpacking adventures.
Rongai compensates for its more uniform scenery by traversing almost entirely through true wilderness areas throughout the journey. The descent is made via the Marangu route. Universe Adventure Tours offers Rongai as either a seven-day group climb or a six- or seven-day private climb. In the six-day variant, it's important to note that there is no acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarn on the fourth day.
