Mount Kilimanjaro Routes

Kilimanjaro trekking to the summit Uhuru- Kibo peak is through one of the 7 routes. These routes are Machame, Rongai, Marangu, Shira, Lemosho, Northern Circuit, and Umbwe. Hiking Kilimanjaro through one of these routes – Machame, Rongai, Umbwe, and Marangu takes 6 days. There are longer routes that take 7 to 8 days for climbing to Kilimanjaro Kibo peak and back to the town, these are Lemosho and Shira.

About Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

This perfectly shaped volcano rises tall from the plains. At 5895m it is the highest in Africa and is snow-capped. Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed any time of the year but there is usually a lot more rain during April, May, and November. At the lower levels, you will pass through cultivated farmlands rising through tropical rain forest onto alpine meadows and finally, the barren landscape leading to the snow and ice-capped summit. The lower levels also offer the chance to view a wide variety of animals, birds, and fauna in their natural habitat.

There are five major routes through the forest and moorland areas before joining the south circuit path between 3500m and 4500m they are:
From the south circuit path various walking (trekking), scrambling, and technical climbing trails take you the last1200m or so to the summit. Most people, however, take the final leg of the Marangu route unless you are a technical climber in which case the summit may be reached via Rebman glacier, decken glacier or heim glacier amongst others. The final ascent to the summit starts normally at about 2.00 am from Kibo hut so that it is reached before dawn to watch the sunrise and gaze out over the vast expanses of African bushland.


Rongai Route 7 Days Kilimanjaro Summit Climbing.

7 Days Rongai route trekking, the Rongai route is the spectacular awesome route that approaches the summit from the less walking at the dry, north-eastern side of Mount Kilimanjaro. The hiker starts close to the Kenyan border and gives interesting views under the African skies and Mawenzi Peak. The trails are well progress and go through the green forests, rain forest, and alpine desert. Although the Rongai route can be generally considered as an also easy route on Mount Kilimanjaro, the stages of the rock in the summit area are sometimes a little more physically demanding. After the summit the descend route is via Marangu route and crosses the lush and Montana forest on the trails. Hikers will sleep at mountain tents during the full climb even on descending.
