Marangu route 6 Days hiking is considered the easiest route to climb up Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit – Kibo. The Marangu Route is the only route with homely beds at every camp. The Marangu route is well-developed since the route provides accommodation in huts and the hikers are constant and moderate. The summit approach is known to be one of the hardest compared to other Kilimanjaro climbing trails as it needs commitment. The accommodation on the Marangu route is looking in simple mountain huts, which might be favourably compared to the camping site.

6 Days Marangu route Climbing Kilimanjaro plus 2 overnights in Moshi or Arusha

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – drive to Moshi or driving to Arusha

Upon arrival, you will be met timeously at Kilimanjaro Airport by our transfer specialist who will welcome you and then transfer you to your arranged hotel in Moshi or hotel in Arusha. That evening your mountain guide will meet you for a briefing on the hike and check your trekking gears and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment that you required for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 2: Climbing from Marangu Gate 1,860 meter Mandara hut 2,700 meters.

  • Hiking Time:4-5 hours

After having your delicious breakfast at the hotel, you will be heading to the Marangu gate on Mount Kilimanjaro National Park 1,840 meters, You will be having a lunch box at Marangu gate. After the registration and weighing of the luggage for the porters have been done, your hiking will be starting and you will soon be trekking through the Montana forest or rainforest. On your way to the camp, you might see black and white colobus monkeys scrambling through the lush vegetation. you will reach your first day’s camp located in the Montana forest, the Mandara Hut. After enjoying your delicious dinner, your guide will meet you for a briefing about the next day’s hike.

Day 3:Climbing from Mandara Hut 2,700 meter to Horombo Hut 3,700 meter.

  • Hiking Time:6-7 hours

You will start with an early scrumptious breakfast and shortly after you have left Mandara Hut, you will get to see the tree line where the vegetation zone starts changing to shrubs. It is about 4 to 6 hours later, the Horombo Camp will come into sight at an altitude of about 3,720 meters above sea level. From the Horombo camp, you will have breathtaking views overlooking Mawenzi peak, Kibo peak

Day 4: Acclimatization day at Horombo Hut 3,700 meter or optional hike to Zebra Rocks 3,980 meter.

It is a greater day for acclimatization that helps your body to acclimatize to the high altitude by climb from Horombo hut to Zebra rock. Acclimatization should not be underestimated as it greatly improves your chances of reaching the summit. After having breakfast and relaxing, you will be hiking at least for 2 to 3-hour to Zebra Rocks 3,980 meters. The unique black and white stripes give the rock formation its name. On your return back to Horombo Hut, a cooked lunch will be ready waiting for you. You will have time to relax in the afternoon and regain your strength for the hike the following day.

Day 5: Climbing from  Horombo Hut 3,700 meter to Kibo Hut 4,700 meter.

  • Distance:9 kilometres
  • Hiking Time:6-7hours

After early breakfast you will begin your trekking to Kibo Hut, today’s hiking is long and the trail going through the “last water point” which is followed by the so-called “saddle”. This near plant less plateau links the summit of Kibo with Mawenzi. Today’s destination is Kibo Hut and it may be reached in about 5 to 6 hours. Tonight you have early dinner so that you can have an early enough rest since you will get up at midnight.

Day 6: Climb from Kibo Hut 4,700 meter to Uhuru Peak 5,895 meter to Horombo Hut 3,700 meter.

  • Descending Time: from Kibo to Horombo 4hours

Today is the “long day” – the summit final. You will embark in the middle of the night when the lava ash is still frozen and passing through on it is easier. You will begin with the long and strenuous trek to the summit in the dark. Passing the Hans Meyer cave at 5,200 meters, the hike slowly but surely goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gilman’s Point 5,715 meter on the crater rim. Soon you will be starting feeling warm and after another 1 to 2 hours, you will arrive at Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. Now you are at “The Top of Africa”. The descent follows the same trails and the lava ash will now have melted encouraging a fast descent. On your way back to Kibo Hut, a hot lunch awaits you and you can take a rest while to regain your strength. After a 1 hour break, you will be going back down to the Horombo Hut 3,700 meter where you will be reaching in the evening.

Day 7: Descend from Horombo Hut 3,700 meter to Marangu Gate 1,860 meter to Moshi.

  • Hiking Time5-6 hours

On the last day going back through the heather and moor zone to the Mandara Hut 2,700 meter where you will get a cooked lunch. After having lunch, you will again be in the lush tropical rainforest and after about 4 hours of trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park gate 1,860 meters. After your guide sign for the certificate, you will be transferred to the hotel in Moshi or Arusha and after a warm shower, you will relax at the pool or celebrate your achievement.

Day 8: Departure from Moshi or from Arusha to Kilimanjaro Airport.

After your morning breakfast, you will be transferred on time to Kilimanjaro Airport or you can extend your trip to Tanzania by adding safari and Zanzibar holiday.
