Marangu Route

The Marangu Route, famously dubbed the "Coca-Cola" route, stands as Mount Kilimanjaro's oldest and most renowned path. Unique among the various routes, Marangu offers the convenience of dormitory-style sleeping huts instead of the traditional camping accommodations found on other paths.
Mandara and Kibo Huts on the Marangu Route each offer 60 bunk beds, and Horombo Hut features 120 bunk beds. While mattresses and pillows are provided, guests are still required to bring their own sleeping bags. All huts are equipped with shared dining halls and basic washrooms. The lower huts, such as Mandara and Horombo, have flushing toilets and running water, whereas Kibo Hut offers long drop toilets and buckets of water.
Many choose the Marangu Route for its reputation as the easiest path on Mount Kilimanjaro, thanks to its gentle slope and direct trail. However, its shorter duration can make altitude acclimatization more challenging. The route approaches the mountain from the southeast, and as the ascent and descent paths are the same, Marangu offers less varied scenery compared to other routes, contributing to its status as the most popular and busiest path. Tanzania Classic Tours offers Marangu as either a five- or six-day private climb. Notably, the five-day variant does not include an acclimatization day at Horombo Hut on the third day.
