The Marangu Route is the only route with homely beds at every camp. The Marangu route is well-developed since the route gives accommodation in huts and the climb is constant and moderate. The summit approach is slightly hard compared to other Kilimanjaro climbing trails routes as it wants commitment. The accommodation on the Marangu route is in manageable Mountain huts, which might be a benefit compared to the camping routes.

Marangu route 5 days climbing Mount Kilimanjaro plus 3 Days Tanzania Budget Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – drive to Moshi or Arusha.

Upon arrival, you will be met timeously at Kilimanjaro Airport by our transfer specialist who will welcome you and then transfer you to your arranged hotel in Moshi or hotel in Arusha. That evening your mountain guide will meet you for a briefing on the hike and check your trekking gears and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment that you required for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 2: Climbing from Marangu Gate 1,860 meter to Mandara hut 2,700 meters.

After having your delicious breakfast at the hotel, you will be heading to Marangu gate on Mount Kilimanjaro National Park 1,840 meters, you will be having a lunch box at Marangu gate. After the registration and weighing the luggage for the porters have been done, your hike will be starting and you will soon be trekking through the Montana forest or rainforest. On your way to the camp, you might see black and white colobus monkeys scrambling through the lush vegetation. you will reach your first day’s camp located on the Montana forest, the Mandara Hut. After enjoying your delicious dinner, your guide will meet you for a briefing about the next day’s hike.

Day 3: Climbing from Mandara Hut 2,700 meter to Horombo Hut 3,700 meter.

The day commences with an early breakfast and shortly after you have left Mandara Hut, you will arrive at the tree line where vegetation will start to change to shrubs. Just about 6 hours later, the Horombo Hut will come into sight at an altitude of about 3,720 meters above sea level. From the hut, you will have breathtaking views overlooking Mawenzi peak, Kibo peak and the Masai grassland.

Day 4: Climbing from Horombo Hut 3,700 meter to Kibo Hut 4,700 meter.

  • Hiking Time:6-7hours

After early breakfast you will begin your trekking to Kibo Hut, today’s hiking is long and the trail goes through the “last water point” which is followed by the so-called “saddle”. This near plant less plateau links the summit of Kibo with Mawenzi. Today’s destination is Kibo Hut and it may be reached in about 5 to 6 hours. Tonight, you have early dinner so that you can have an early enough rest since you will get up at midnight.

Day 5: Climbing from Kibo Hut 4,700 meter to Uhuru Peak 5,895 meter to Horombo Huts 3,700 meter

Today is the “long day” – the summit final. You will embark on the middle of the night when the lava ash is still frozen and passing through on it is easier. You will begin with the long and strenuous trek to the summit in the dark. Passing the Hans Meyer cave at 5,200 meters, the hike slowly but surely goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gilman’s Point 5,715 meter on the crater rim. Soon you will be starting feeling warm and after another 1 to 2 hours, you will arrive at Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. Now you are at “The Top of Africa”. The descent follows the same trails and the lava ash will now have melted encouraging a fast descent. On your way back to Kibo Hut, a hot lunch awaits you and you can take a rest while to regain your strength. After a 1-hour break, you will be going back down to the Horombo Hut 3,700 meter where you will be reaching in the evening.

Day 6: Descending from Horombo Hut 3,700 meter to Marangu Gate 1,860 meter to Moshi or Arusha.

The last day goes back through the heather and moor zone to the Mandara Hut 2,700 meter where you will get a cooked lunch. After having lunch, you will again be in the lush tropical rainforest and after about 4 hours of trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park gate 1,860 meters. After your guide sign for the certificate, you will be transferred to the hotel in Moshi or Arusha and after a warm shower, you will relax at the pool or celebrate your achievement.

Day 7: Arusha to Tarangire national park.

After a full breakfast, you will be transferred from your hotel in Arusha and drive directly to Tarangire National park for a full day game drive. The Tarangire National park is the third-largest national park in Tanzania and is home to a large population of elephant. The park is abundant with ancient giant Baobab

trees, also known as the “Tree of Life”, which covers a majority of the landscape of the park. The Tarangire river meanders throughout the park whilst supporting the flora and wildlife of the park.

Day 7: Full game viewing in Ngorongoro Crater

After early breakfast, you will depart with a picnic lunch and you will visit Ngorongoro Crater for a full day of game viewing. The Ngorongoro crater has a good number of lions and cheetahs, and it is another good place to see the rare black rhino. The Ngorongoro crater is the world’s largest unbroken Caldera where thousands of animals live, where you will see big five animals. That afternoon you will enjoy your picnic lunch at the hippo pool then continue with the afternoons animal sightings as you make your way out of the crater.

Day 8: Lake Manyara National park – Arusha.

We visit Lake Manyara for animal sightings with options for a cultural visit in the nearby village of Mto Wa Mbu. Lake Manyara National Park is located in the Great Rift Valley and the park maintains the green forest which is watered by underground water streams from the Ngorongoro highlands. The highlights of Lake Manyara are the tree-climbing lions as well as thousands of pink flamingoes, hot springs, elephants, wildebeest, impala, zebra, hippopotamus and various bird species. The journey ends with a return afternoon drive of approximately 2 hours back to Arusha.
